Crushing desert rock infused with psychedelia and unapologetic retro energy

"Fuzzed-up retro-rock sound is as welcoming as a bear hug from a life-long friend." Louder What’s really left before the apocalypse? Fire from the sky? Locusts? Oceans of blood? Since Rough Times in 2017, Kadavar have been channeling their own vision of the end times. Eight years later, the world has only grown darker—and so has their response. On K.A.D.A.V.A.R. , Berlin’s rock royalty return with a heavier, rawer, more focused sound, blending the fuzz-driven spirit of their early years with the expanded creativity of their four-piece lineup. Their recent album I Just Want To Be A Sound marked an essential reset. After years of relentless touring, the band had reached a breaking point. Rather than continue on autopilot, Lupus Lindemann, Tiger Bartelt, Jascha Kreft and Simon Bouteloup chose to rebuild from the ground up. Working with producer Max Rieger, they rediscovered their identity and laid the foundation for a new era. K.A.D.A.V.A.R. feels like the natural counterpart to that record. Where its predecessor drifted through atmospheric textures, this album returns to riffs, groove and hard rock intensity. "We consciously went back to our roots," says Lupus Lindemann. "We wanted massive riffs and loud, heavy rock." The recording process reflected that philosophy. Produced once again by Tiger Bartelt and tracked to tape with vintage equipment, the sessions restored the band's confidence and reminded them that authenticity mattered more than reinvention. Making the album felt less like repeating the past than finally coming home. That homecoming, however, was only possible because of everything that came before: the experimental Isolation Tapes , the collaboration with Elder, the addition of Jascha Kreft, and songwriting outside the band. Together, those experiences expanded Kadavar's creative identity while making this return to rock feel like a genuine step forward rather than a retreat. Kreft has become an essential part of that evolution. His arrival challenged the former power trio to rethink its songwriting, bringing new ideas while strengthening the chemistry that has always defined the band. Lyrically, K.A.D.A.V.A.R. turns outward. Where I Just Want To Be A Sound explored internal struggles, this is a true doomsday record—angrier, heavier and driven by the chaos of today's world. According to Lindemann, it forms the second chapter of a trilogy, with a final album eventually representing renewal after destruction. Across nine songs, the album moves from the crushing opener "Lies" to the slacker rock of "Stick It," the monumental title track and the thrash attack of "Total Annihilation." Simultaneously their heaviest and most diverse work, K.A.D.A.V.A.R. honors the band's origins without being trapped by them. "We wanted to rediscover the sense of freedom we had fifteen years ago," says Lindemann. "We can't recreate the innocence of our first records, but we can get close." Like their debut—only this time as a quartet— K.A.D.A.V.A.R. is bold, powerful and alive. Kadavar have come full circle. They sound familiar, yet completely renewed.
