In a small Chinese town with straight lines and a cold climate, bodies begin to stir.

BEL AMI — Geng Jun CN — 2024 — 117’ — FIC — VO ZH — ST EN/FR In a small Chinese town with straight lines and a cold climate, bodies begin to stir. The slightly eccentric characters make their way through this normative, stifling place, often entering into improbable and astonishing relationships. The film is both lyrical and idiosyncratic in its portrayal of freedom and desire in an extremely normative society. The storylines become intertwined, and the queer narratives burst at the seams even as they're held back. Banned in China, this film is a ballet in black and white, a poetic middle finger to an oppressive regime.
