An enduring figure of soul music, drawing on the genre’s traditions since the 1960s

"The soul veteran builds out every song with towering horn arrangements, strings, and background vocals on an album focused on love, loss, and longing." Pitchfork Soul music has poured out of Lee Fields since the 1960s, when he was a teenager in North Carolina performing on juke joint stages. Now in his late sixties, the living legend is enjoying the most successful period of his career. Fields has known despair, obscurity and defeat. Although he now tours around the world and helped fellow soul legends Sharon Jones — once his backup singer — and Charles Bradley — whom he took on his first tour — get their first breaks, there were years when he nearly gave up. In the 1980s, as gigs dried up, he worked in real estate and planned to open a restaurant before his wife convinced him to continue: “stick to what you know.” His success today has a bittersweet tinge. Both Jones and Bradley have passed away, leaving Fields to carry their legacy forward. Decades of experience have shaped a worldview rooted in love, faith and the belief that music can connect people. This philosophy finds its fullest expression on It Rains Love , perhaps his most earnest record yet. An album of love, hurt, kindness and wisdom, it allowed Fields to put more of himself into his music than ever before. Its final two songs, “God Is Real” and “Love Is The Answer,” encapsulate much of what he has been trying to express throughout his career. Raised in the Christian faith, Fields sees the divine as something that transcends individual religions. “I believe God is all in all,” he says. “I believe any religion that tells you to do the right thing.” The music itself reaches beyond traditional soul without losing its roots, with “God Is Real” even hinting at dub. Today, Fields stands at the forefront of the soul revival, bringing a sense of timelessness and tradition to 21st-century music. His influence also reaches hip hop, with his music sampled by artists including J. Cole and Travis Scott. His music does not belong to one era: he has been testifying through soul since Otis Redding was alive. He is living history. FOR FANS OF : Syl Johnson, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley Lee Fields- Tiny Desk Concert Lee Fields – Trail Mix Session “Lost Lost Lost” – the long-awaited debut album from Stylart/Timmion recording artists Pratt & Moody – takes the listener to soundscapes of classic late 60’s and early 70’s soul. Tailor-made for long lowrider roadtrips along the Pacific coastline. Mr. Pratt is heard on the heartbreaking falsetto vocals and Mr. Moody on twangy lead guitar, backed by the Stylart/Timmion house band Cold Diamond & Mink who also helped produce the album and cut the vinyl in their famous analog studio. The title track from the upcoming album was originally conceived already in 2017 and was noted by the Grammy website to be one of the classic tracks of the bourgeoning souldies/sweet soul scene growing out of East LA. It may come as a surprise to many that the music was actually recorded just below the arctic circle. ”Such a great record – and you’d never think that came out of Finland” is how Elton John introduced their 2024 single Creeping around on his Rocket Hour radio show. Sir Elton isn’t their only famous fan, their songs have been playlisted by everyone from Danger Mouse to the Olsen twins’ fashion brand The Row. The two Finnish gentlemen have been making music together for over 10 years in the psychedelic indie folk outfit Tuomo & Markus , but now it’s time to hear their take on old school soul balladry. It’s not reaching too far from home since Mr. Pratt aka Tuomo Prättälä has worked on soul and r&b as a solo artist since the early 2000’s, recording several gold-selling solo albums in his homeland. Meanwhile, Mr. Moody aka Markus Nordenstreng was based in California for many years where he wrote and recorded several Americana leaning albums and collaborated with legends like Kris Kristoffersson, Levon Helm and members of Wilco. Once the mood pulls you in, you’ll be locked in for a while, and asking for a second helping. This album is packed with one ”firme rola” after another. Pratt & Moody feat.
